Cross river and gorges without needing to build a bridge or get your feet wet! Constructing a rope system over the gap you’ll be able to slide along it, or get your team-mates to pull you. Think of it as the original flying fox or zip-line!
Originally from the Tyrolean Alps between Austria and Italy, Tyroleans are now used by Mountain Rescue teams and mountaineers to cross gaps where there’s no other way across. Just like them to get across you’ll need to set up the whole system from scratch under the guidance of your instructor; tying knots in ropes, anchoring the ropes on trees and rocks, attaching pulleys and slings, and hauling on the rope to tension up everything as tight as you can.
Once you’ve built it, you’ll need to pick a guineapig to be the first to test it! Then you’ll need to work as a team to make sure everybody gets across to the other side. This is a fantastic activity for teamwork; arriving at a completely blank location and needing to work together to set everything up before putting your trust in the team’s handiwork.
