Our Try Kayaking sessions are designed to let people get out on the water and give canoeing a go. It’s all about having fun and a great experience, and at the same time learning some of the basic skills to be able to control the boat.
Once you’re kitted up we’ll get you comfortable in the boat and learn a few ways of paddling the kayak; moving in a straight-line forward and backwards, turning and stopping. Then we might go on a little bit of a journey. All the way through we have games and challenges that will get you laughing and maybe even bring out your competitive side. You might even have the chance to get wet (though only if you want to!).
If Try Kayaking leaves you wanting to find out more, or you’ve done a bit of paddling before, then why not book onto our BC 1 Star or even BC 2 Star courses to build your skills and experience.
To ensure you get the most out of your activity, we ask that participants meet some minimum abilities.
- Being capable of swimming 25m with a buoyancy aid is preferred, but if not participants should at least be comfortable being in the water wearing a buoyancy aid.
If you have any questions, please get in touch. We are usually able to accommodate a diverse range of special requirements.
For assessment courses that require logbooks or NGB registration, please ensure these are completed before the course commences.
For introductory activities, we provide all the activity and safety equipment you need. With more advanced courses you may be expected to have some of your own personal equipment; see the Kit List for information. Whether it’s the latest gear, great instruction or comfy accommodation, we aim to provide you with the best we can.
