Are you happy navigating your away along paths but not sure what to do when the path ends? Unsure of how to make the best use of your compass so it can do more than just point North? Then the Silver Award is the one for you!
The Silver level is designed for people looking to leave the paths when outdoors and be confident when crossing open countryside. It builds on the skills covered at the Bronze Award; developing strategies for terrain with complicating features, refining contour interpretation, and understanding the factors that can affect your navigating skills.
In addition to the skills included in the Bronze award this course covers;
- Navigating by landforms
- Coarse and fine navigation
- Relocation techniques
- Advanced use of pacing and timing
- Advanced contour interpretation
- Route selection
The full syllabus can be found on the NNAS website.
If you’re an regular hillwalker who is well practised with navigational skills then why not try the Gold Award?
