The Gold Award is the highest level in the NNAS scheme. It is designed to proved the participants with a well stocked toolbox of navigational techniques, and is a great training tool on the path towards an outdoor instructing qualification.

Building on the skills covered at the Silver Award we look at; Micro navigation, appropriate route selection, and navigation in challenging conditions.

The Gold Award is split in to a separate training and assessment courses. The Gold Assessment can be taken after a period of consolidation and your Gold Trainer will advise you about your own personal training plan at the end of your Gold Training Course.

In addition to the skills included in the Bronze and Silver awards this course covers;

  • Bearings
  • Navigating by landforms
  • Coarse and fine navigation
  • Relocation techniques
  • Advanced use of pacing and timing
  • Advanced contour interpretation
  • Route selection

To ensure you get the most out of your activity, we ask that participants meet some minimum abilities.
